transgender tolerance short educational flyer (en & de)

in Germany about 0.008% of the population is diagnosed as transsexual [1]. This makes transsexual rights an extremely low priority in terms of minority rights, and it means that discussing this topic at all diverts our attention away from the great many of other minority groups that we could be more considerate and mindful about. Such as people suffering from depression (500 times more prevalent) or PTSD (1000 times more prevalent), or the thousands of people who die every year, because they are denied access to new experimental treatments. An almost endless list of similar topics exist that are literally thousands of times more important, because they affect much more people much more seriously, we can exert much more influence and we share more responsibility. All the while advocating for transgender rights in an evidently ignorant, overreaching, dogmatic and self-profiling manner, as commonly seen online and in media, only primes people to push back and act adversarial and emotionally charged - with increased focus, awareness, attention and vigilance. Not only against transgender advocacy, but collaterally against individuals as well. This entirely contradicts the interest of transgendered people: they don't even want to be seen and perceived as transgendered in the first place. Their entire life revolves around thriving to be "invisible" towards the public, i.e. to be perceived as the gender they desire. The vast majority of advocates being not transgender themselves, not even personally knowing any transgendered people, are actively working against this. This makes it highly questionable to talk about transgender rights outside of a clinical environment in the first place. The dilemma is the main reason, why so many people in opposition of ill developments, have been silent on the topic for so long.

The saddest aspect of it is, that this topic has become a cultural gag to many, a part time hobby to instigate discord with, vent off hate against people of different opinion and make themselves feel more virtuous than the other side, each inside their own ignorance. Politics and media institutions cash in on it as well, amplify it and bend it to their liking. In many ways the huge call-out on the topic we see nowadays makes the situation just much worse for transgendered people. Yet people continue to push it onto others, bend their mind around it how circles can be understood to be squares or to ridicule the very idea, and fight about it as some form of disturbed entertainment. It is an enterprise where the victims are so small in number, or so distant in the future, that the harm to them goes entirely unnoticed, and can just be ignored out of existence. A virtual battleground, seemingly free of any real-life impact to real-life people around you. And that's why everyone loves the topic so much. Transgender people are so few in numbers, that they are helpless against and can only succumb to how the debate is steered and the politics are made, by the overwhelming numbers of their proxy advocates. People who are by far and large neither qualified nor motivated to bring forth any sort of functional change - but profit and derive value from the exact opposite: to further their hobby of endless discord, tribalism and virtuous hobby-hatred, against anyone who disagrees, with what is known as common sense on the one hand and transgender ideology on the other.

The injection of this new radical ideology into our culture, which tries to turn the nature of human existence and biological realities upside down, creates a lot of ill effects. Actual harm can arise from this to a great many of people on the long run, especially children and teenagers. Additionally forcing such social changes, that are unarguably not rooted in science and reality, but ideology and short-sighted thinking, is bound to result in radicalized backlashes turning against transgendered people in general, as we have witnessed it in Poland.

This is why I wrote this very concise flyer as a printout in order to appeal to reason, educate and confront people about transgenderism, but in the real world, the offline world. It is the most to make out of the least words for positive cultural values and harm reduction, something that can fit into an everyday encounter. Unfortunately this also means that it cannot actually capture the issues of transgender individuals as discussed on this page and far beyond. Which neither side genuinely cares about anyway.

You are invited to print it out and hand it to others if the topic creates problems in your community.

Furthermore, the obvious harm-reducing and far-sighted solution to the issue is very simple:

  • All transgender advocates, public figures and otherwise affected, must raise awareness, that being confused about one's own gender can have many causes, most of which are potentially more harmful and dangerous to address through a transgender lifestyle, especially in children and adolescents or people with other mental disorders. Only 1-5% of children who express gender confusion (i.e. the wish or conviction to be of the opposite sex) actually develop gender dysphoria, and even less choose to undergo hormone treatment [2][3]. The potential harm of steering 99-95% of confused children or adolescents into the wrong direction (involving bodily mutilation, irreversible changes and high-risk experimental drug therapies with known harm to organs and body and no long-term safety studies), based purely on ideology and blind advocacy, would be insurmountable.
  • Consequently children and vulnerable groups must be shielded from the idea, that gender-switching is a viable and accessible solution to experiencing confusion about one's own gender. Gender-switching must remain a last-resort means for a very small subset of  people. Similar to how amputation of a limb can be considered as a last-resort means to address body integrity dysphoria. This is the exact opposite of what we see today, where youth are excessively empowered with self-determination, and consequently approach the issue with a mentality of "fast forward to tricking the therapist into prescribing me hormones", which starkly reflects in modern statistics, of which the fallout remains yet to fully develop.
  • Transgender people can attempt to live as the opposite gender, but must not be deceived about the fact that this also mandates from them to be able to learn to live with the reality and validity of other people's perceptions.
  • If issues arise, such as with public figures and role models, transgender people must caution others that the path they took in life is much more burdensome, than trying to accept and live with one's actual sex - which is for the vast majority of people to our best scientific knowledge indeed feasible and possible, and should be attempted first for very extensive periods of time, even if it contradicts self-perception - especially so if mental disorders are involved or people are still mentally developing. Being of the 1% for which it didn't work out this way, makes one's own experiences inherently bad and problematic advice.
  • It is improper for people to demand to treat them or others as something they wish to be, rather than what they are. The objective truth that transgender people are born of one gender, trying to live as the other, must not be denied by personal feelings or ideology in a promotional or dogmatic manner - however it is still acceptable if the individual denies it as a matter of privacy. And this should be respected by others.
  • Transgender people should have a place in society, in which they can be accepted as transgendered, without furthering a social dogma that demands everyone else to become ignorant of the fact, or deceptive towards others.
